Connecting to your work computer remotely

Remoting into your Campus Computer from Off-Campus

-Settings needed to be set on your Campus Computer

-You will need to have your work computer’s name before going home to set this up. To find your

computer’s name, go to File Explorer and right-click on “This PC” and click on “Properties”

-Your Computer Name will be listed in this Properties window.

-Also, on this “Properties” page, make sure your campus computer is allowing Remote Desktop. To check this, click on “Remote settings”

-Make sure the “Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (recommended)” is checked.

-Your campus computer needs to stay powered on if you are going to be remoting into it from home. You will also want to make sure the Power Options are set to “Never”. To do this, type “Edit Power Plan” in your Search window next to your Start button. Set both the “Turn off the display:” and “Put the computer to sleep:” to “Never”

-Settings needed to be set on your Home Computer

-Go to Start Button->Windows Accessories

-Then Remote Desktop Connection

-Click on “Show Options”

-Go to the “Advanced” tab

-Then “Settings” & type rdp2016.wartburg.edu into the “Server name:” box and click “OK”

-Go back to the “General” tab and put the name of your computer into the “Computer” box and also put your name in the “User name” in the following format: wartburg\firstname.lastname

-Click “Connect”

-Put in your username and password into the window that pops up and click “OK”. (Be sure and put your

name in as wartburg\firstname.lastname)

-You will get a second login window

-Click on “Use another account” and put in your credentials again and click “OK”

Give it a little time but it should then log into your computer. (The first time it asks for your username, it is accessing the Wartburg network. The second time is when it’s logging into your computer)
